Origin & Context:
Coconut oil was traditionally used by Pacific Islanders to protect and nourish their skin under intense sun exposure. Modern natural sunscreen recipes build on that base with mineral protection from zinc oxide.
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup coconut oil (SPF 4–6)
- ¼ cup shea butter (SPF 4–6)
- 2 tablespoons non-nano zinc oxide (SPF protection)
- 1 tablespoon beeswax (optional for thicker texture)
- Optional: 10 drops carrot seed oil or raspberry seed oil (natural SPF)
Instructions:
- Melt the coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax in a double boiler.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Stir in the zinc oxide and optional oils.
- Pour into a jar and store in a cool, dark place.
