Cabbage Poultice – European Folk Medicine

Context & Origin:
Used in medieval Europe and by early herbalists, cabbage poultices were a common remedy for joint pain and swelling. Cabbage contains powerful anti-inflammatory compounds, including glutamine, which reduces swelling and pain.

Ingredients:

  • 2–3 fresh cabbage leaves
  • 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Crush the cabbage leaves to release their juices.
  2. Place them over inflamed joints or muscles.
  3. Secure with a cloth and leave for 30 minutes.
