Shea Butter & Carrot Seed Sunscreen – West African & Ayurvedic Traditions

Origin & Context:
Shea butter has been used for centuries in West African cultures to protect and heal the skin. Carrot seed oil is an Ayurvedic favorite for revitalizing sun-damaged skin.

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup raw shea butter (SPF 4–6)
  • 2 teaspoons carrot seed oil (SPF up to 40)
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon zinc oxide (optional for added SPF)

Instructions:

  1. Melt shea butter and coconut oil together.
  2. Mix in carrot seed oil and zinc oxide if using.
  3. Whip the mixture for a fluffier texture.
  4. Store in a tinted jar to preserve oils.
